Best Areas to Stay in Estepona
Choosing the right neighbourhood matters more than choosing the right hotel. Estepona covers a lot of ground, and each area suits a different kind of trip.
Old Town (Centro Historico)
Best for: Couples, culture lovers, and anyone who wants boutique hotels with character.
Estepona's Old Town is the postcard-perfect heart of the city. Whitewashed buildings are decorated with colourful flowerpots, narrow lanes wind into shaded squares, and tapas bars spill onto cobbled streets.
Staying here puts you within walking distance of Plaza de las Flores, the Orchid House, and plenty of local cafes where life carries on at a slower, Andalusian pace.
Seafront and Playa de la Rada
Best for: Families and travellers who want beach days on the doorstep.
Running the length of the town, Playa de la Rada is Estepona's main beach, a wide sandy stretch backed by a palm-lined promenade.
Hotels here are steps from the sea, and you'll have easy access to chiringuitos, water sports, and a lively evening atmosphere. The marina and Paseo Maritimo are close by, making this area great if you want both the beach and nightlife.
West Estepona (Arroyo Vaquero and Bahia Dorada)
Best for: Families, nature lovers, and those who want a more relaxed stay away from the buzz.
Head west from the town centre, and things get quieter. This part of Estepona is dotted with residential areas, golf courses, and larger resorts.
Arroyo Vaquero and Bahia Dorada are known for peaceful beaches and easy access to nature, while still being a short drive from town. If you prefer space, a calmer pace, and family-friendly resorts, this is the spot.
New Golden Mile
Best for: Luxury travellers, golfers, and anyone who wants resort-style convenience with plenty of amenities.
The New Golden Mile is the stretch of coast between Estepona and Marbella, lined with big-name resorts, luxury hotels, and golf courses. It's modern, well-developed, and offers everything from all-inclusive beach hotels to ultra-luxury stays with spas and fine dining.
You're halfway between Estepona and Marbella here, so it's a good choice if you want to explore both towns.

It regularly appears on lists of Europe's best hotels. If budget isn't a concern, this is the ultimate choice for the Estepona area.
Are Luxury Hotels in Estepona Cheaper Than Marbella?
Yes, and often by a meaningful margin. Five-star hotels in Estepona typically cost 20-30% less than comparable properties in Marbella, especially during peak summer months.
Resorts like Ikos Andalusia and Kempinski rival the best hotels in Marbella for quality, dining, and service, but you'll pay less for the same standard. The reason is simple: Marbella has stronger brand recognition, so hotels there charge a premium for the name.
Estepona also offers better value in the boutique and mid-range categories. A four-star Old Town hotel like Hotel Silken El Pilar starts from around 80 euros per night, compared to 120 euros or more for a similar property in Marbella's old quarter.
If you're considering both destinations, our guide to things to do in Marbella covers what's on offer there.
Which Estepona Hotels Are Best for Families?
Families with children will want a resort with pools, kids' clubs, and enough space to keep everyone entertained without needing a car every day.
H10 Estepona Palace is the top family all-inclusive, with dedicated kids' entertainment, two pools, and direct beach access. Sol Marbella Estepona Atalaya Park is ideal for sporty families thanks to its football pitches, tennis courts, and huge grounds. Fuerte Estepona is the quieter option, with spacious suites and wide beaches that work well for younger children.
For luxury families, Ikos Andalusia is hard to beat. The kids' club is excellent, the food keeps adults happy, and the resort is large enough that everyone gets their own space.
Booking Tips for Estepona Hotels
Book early for all-inclusive resorts. Ikos Andalusia and H10 Estepona Palace sell out months in advance, especially for summer and school holidays.
Check what's included before you book. Not all "all-inclusive" packages are equal. Ikos includes premium spirits and Michelin dining. Budget options may have limited menus.
If you want to explore Estepona's restaurants and tapas bars, consider half-board (breakfast and dinner) instead of full all-inclusive. You'll save money and eat better.
Old Town boutique hotels are walkable to everything but 5-10 minutes from the beach on foot. Beachfront resorts require a taxi or car for Old Town dining.
Hotels near the New Golden Mile often include golf packages with tee time discounts at nearby championship courses. Anantara Villa Padierna has three courses on site.
May, June, September, and October offer the best value with perfect weather. Avoid August if you can, as that's when prices peak and the coast is busiest. Our best time to visit Estepona guide has the full breakdown.
Getting to Your Hotel in Estepona
Estepona doesn't have a train station. The nearest is in Fuengirola, about 30 minutes east. Most visitors arrive by car or transfer from Malaga Airport, which is roughly an hour's drive along the AP-7 motorway.
If you're not hiring a car, most five-star hotels offer private airport transfers. For the all-inclusive resorts, it's worth checking whether the transfer is included in your package.

Estepona is about 30km west of Marbella, roughly 25-30 minutes along the coastal AP-7. Hotels on the New Golden Mile sit roughly halfway between both towns.
